STEM Summer Camp

Two girls playing with slime as part of the STEM summer camp.

In collaboration with 4-H, FLSI is running two 1-week long STEM Summer Camp Programs (Monday - Friday), 9 am to noon, for kids ages 9-12 on the Blacksburg, VA campus in June and July each year.

Each day we will focus on different STEM topics including geology (including jewelry making), microscopy, horticulture (with a tour of the Hahn Horticulture Garden), computer coding (including Sibling Detector and Arduino MP3 Player- you keep materials!), and engineering (build-a-boat kits).

Since most of our time will be in a lab setting, children must wear long pants (or skirt to the ankle, if appropriate) and closed toe shoes. We will also be moving around campus so please make sure your shoes are comfortable and plan on being on your feet the entire time.

VT/MCPS COVID-19 protocols will be followed; masks are optional for kids. Snacks will not be provided however we will take a 15 min break around 10:30 am so that students can eat a quick snack outside and use the restroom. Please send a snack with your child(ren). The building does have soda and snack machines available, but we strongly encourage kids to bring a water bottle.

Attendance is capped at 16 children for each week-long camp. The same material will be presented during each camp so please sign up for only one of the weeks.
