Dr. Allen studies the role of the immune system in host-pathogen recognition.
Description:
His group has indentified several novel mechanisms associated with pattern recognition receptor sensing of viruses and bacteria. Further exploration of the mechanisms underlying the function of these novel mediators of immune system signaling cascades will provide beneficial insight into host-pathogen recognition in the context of mucosal immunology and disease pathogenesis. Dr. Allen's research is focused on NOD-like Receptors (NLRs). He has discovered several novel NLRs and mechanisms that are essential for the induction of the host antiviral response and the resolution of overzealous inflammation following pathogen clearance.
