Cayelan Carey

Associate Professor
  • Department of Biological Sciences
  • College of Science

Synopsis:

Dr. Carey integrates freshwater ecosystem ecology and data science to examine how humans are affecting freshwater systems, and in turn how changing water quality is altering human decision-making.

Description:

The Carey Lab studies how feedbacks among plankton taxa, food webs, and nutrient cycling can mediate ecosystem resilience to eutrophication and climate change. Dr. Carey works across lakes, reservoirs, and streams, and uses ecological forecasting, ecosystem models, field experiments, and long-term data analysis to determine how human stressors affect water quality and ecosystem services.
