Marion Ehrich

Professor Emerita
  • Department of Biomedical Sciences & Pathobiology
  • Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine

Synopsis:

Dr. Ehrich studies the safety/toxicology of potential therapeutic agents using rodent models. Addiotionally, her lab studies biochemical neurotoxicology, especially neurotoxicity of organophosphorus compounds.

Description:

An important goal of drug development today is to examine safety and pharmacokinetics of proposed new therapeutic agents and how they can be delivered. Animal models are necessary to obtain such information.

The pharmacy degree and active practice of pharmacy at our teaching hospital provides a clinical understanding of the real need for new therapeutics and the value of formulation and route of administration for improving therapeutic outcomes.

For animal experiments in pharmacology and toxicology, our laboratory has used analytical, biochemical, functional, behavioral and pathological endpoints to quantitate as well as indicate test agent-induced effects, using both in vitro and in vivo models. Our laboratory remains prepared to collaborate on such studies as the need arises.
