Synopsis:
The Fox Laboratory explores the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the formation and maintenance of synapses in the developing mammalian brain.
Description:
Synapses are specialized sites of connection that allow information to be passed between neurons. Their importance is highlighted by the fact that even minor synaptic abnormalities, caused by disease or neurotrauma, result in devastating neurological conditions. Understanding how CNS synapses are formed and maintained throughout life is therefore essential to our understanding of the healthy brain and a number of neurological disorders.
