Nisha Duggal

Assistant Professor
  • Department of Biomedical Sciences & Pathology
  • College of Veterinary Medicine

Research Interest:

Arbovirology

Synopsis:

Dr. Duggal’s research focuses on the co-evolution of emerging mosquito-borne viruses and their hosts.

Description:

Mosquito-borne viruses are emerging globally, with increasing host range and disease potential. Dr. Duggal’s long-term goal is to understand how viral adaptation during emergence affects virus transmission and pathogenesis. Her interests involve emerging arboviruses, host-virus co-evolution, virus sexual transmission, and avian innate immunity. The recent emphasis has been on Zika virus sexual transmission in humans, and Usutu virus and West Nile virus pathogenesis in birds, using molecular virology and phylogenetic tools to identify mechanisms of viral emergence and disease.
